Session includes ‘teach-in’ on ‘clitoral masturbation’
Students at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse are in the middle of being treated to the school’s 2020 “Sexual Health Week,” which features a “teach-in” on “clitoral masturbation” and a vibrator giveaway.
“This week of education is extremely valuable to the campus community because most students do not receive adequate sexual health education in middle or high school. We aim to empower all students to make healthy decisions around sexual activity by providing unbiased, evidence-based, and truthful information,” organizers told the Racquet Press student newspaper.
Kicking off the week Monday was “Breakfast and Birth Control,” during which the university’s student health center and Planned Parenthood joined forces to provide “free sexual health supplies and information about birth control.”
On Tuesday, students were invited to take part in “Sex Jeopardy” to test their knowledge about sex, and on Wednesday “Sexcessful Communication” was on tap to get students “more comfortable talking about sex, by talking about sex.” Wednesday also features “Condom Bingo.”
On Thursday, an opportunity to “engage in a conversation about clitoral masturbation, dealing with stigma, and empowerment” takes place as part of a “teach in” on the subject. The first 40 attendees also get a free vibrator, a flyer for the event states.
Also on Thursday is “Consent and Pizza” where students can “engage in a conversation about consent by combating the ‘sex is like a baseball game’ metaphor and learn how consent is like pizza.” To fill out the theme, there will be pizza at the event.
The week’s final event is a “Flashback Friday to High School Sex Ed” which aims to “fill in the gaps” about sex education, specifically for LGBTQ+ individuals. Additionally, the student club PERIOD@UWL is holding a month long menstrual product drive.
The events are being sponsored by Student Life: Wellness and Health Advocacy, Peer Health Advocates, Student Life: Violence Prevention, the Pride Center, Campus Climate Students Embracing and Educating Diversity, the Student Health Center, Campus Activities Board, College Feminists, the Department of Psychology, and Planned Parenthood of Western Wisconsin.
